This Copywriting Tip Will Help You Win Every Time
Wouldn't you like to win more and lose less? This copywriting tip will have you on the road to riches, if you follow it next time you write your sales message. It's actually a two-part tip. First, know your prospect. That's the most important thing you can do, before you write one word. If you don't know who's going to read your message, how can you possibly write the right kind of message? You need to know how your prospect thinks, what he or she feels about the problem your product or service is going to solve, or your cause is solving. You need to know if this is a blue collar worker, a health fanatic or a rich and privileged executive. Then you need to use language appropriate to your audience. And don't think "audience" in plural. Think of one typical person. Then talk to that person one on one. Hold a conversation in their language, on their level. Don't try to sound "educated", and please don't sound condescending. You won't get any sales that way. Talk as if you're talking to a good friend. Get excited about the product or service you're selling, the cause you're behind, and the excitement will show in your words. Then, use emotion to sell. Remember, you need to think about your prospect's emotions. How does the arthritis he has make him feel him when he wants to go play golf, or pick up his grandson and can't? How does she feel knowing there are less than 40 amur leopards left in the wild? Then, show him how your arthritis remedy will make him feel young again, free again, as if he can do anything he wants again. Let her know exactly what her donation will do to protect those few remaining wild leopards and the habitat they desperately need. People don't buy or donate because of logic. They buy because of emotion. This car will make me feel sexy and bring hordes of girls my way. This cause is solving the crisis of homelessness, one family at a time, one house at a time... one nail at a time. Draw on those emotions, positive or negative, and create a picture your prospect can't resist identifying with. Once you use that copywriting tip, you're well on your way to bringing in loads more money than before. But of course, there are lots more tips to make your copy stronger.
